Tyrone Community Players

Tyrone Community Players was the dream of several mothers in the community who wanted their children to have the opportunity to participate in live theater. They worked hard to find others who shared their dream. This dream was realized with their debut performance in 1984, a sold-out show called The Orphans. They performed in a historic theater in the Tyrone YMCA building, a space that their group worked to renovate. After the first year they established a 3-show season that still continues.

In 2004 the Tyrone Community Players lost their home in the YMCA because of the damage caused by Hurricane Ivan. The local YMCA disbanded, and the building that housed the theater was closed as being unsafe. The Tyrone Community Players purchased another building which was formerly a library and before that an Elks Lodge. Plans for renovating the building still are in their preliminary stages, and options are being explored for a new performance space. In the meantime, the Tyrone Community Players are producing and performing quality theater in this hometown of Tyrone.
