On Sunday February 15 at 2 PM a special event will take place at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center in Johnstown. “Sweeney Todd in Concert” will be presented by a cast of Broadway and regional actors. The performance is a fundraiser for the Arts Coalition of the Alleghenies which is a service of the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance. The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies is assisting with the production of the show.
“Sweeney Todd” is based on the 19th century legend of a London barber who was driven to a life of crime after a judge took his wife and child from him. He forms a partnership with Mrs. Lovett, and together they exact bloody revenge and bake the tastiest meatpies in town. The show was a winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Scott Logsdon directs the production as well as appearing as Sweeney Todd. He is joined in the cast by a number of Broadway actors and regional performers, and an orchestra. About the show Logsdon says, “There’s such a quality of talent in the area. The ensemble is packed with the best of the best.”
